Aarakshan (Hindi: आरक्षण, translation: Reservation) is a 2011 Hindi film starring Amitabh Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone. Directed by Prakash Jha, the film is a socio-political drama based on the controversial policy of caste based reservations in government jobs and educational institutions. Like the majority of Jha's films, it has a simplistic take on complex social and economic issues. The film also stars Prateik Babbar and Manoj Bajpayee.

Zindagi na milegi dobara

I loved this movie. It was compared to Dil Chahta Hai. I did not see the connection.

However, the recurring theme of getting over fears, the recurring theme of friends helping friends to overcome these fears, was very appealing to my (still) youthful spirit. A friend on facebook posted (out of context) “Wasn’t it beautiful when you believed in everything.” This movie reminded me of that.

The script was just too great. Hrithik Roshan is so damn cool…but we all knew that. His screen presence is just too much. Okay, Farhan Akhtar was really good and his character had a lot of scope but with Hrithik in the scene, there was no way you could focus on Farhan Akhtar OR Abhay Deol OR even Naseerudin Shah.
I do not much like  Katrina Kaif. In looks or in acting. This movie did nothing to change that opinion.

Abhay deol, I thought was talentless from the first movie I watched but I have to admit, he acts now.

Farhan Akthar is a favourite now. He has good comedy timing… and well, in this movie, “Bagwati” and “Chudail Alert!” just defined the humor. I thought he handled the emotional scenes without exaggeration.
Whoever designed the guys’ clothes just rocked. The location (SPAIN?) is refreshing and breathtaking. It even reminds me of a pollution free location in India. I have tried none of their sports. But they were quite the daring.

Movies with a strong friendship angle always make me super happy. This one has a pact involved (promising and keeping a promise) too!
Just watch it.

Harry potter – The deathly Hallows 2

Movie || Wiki || IMDB

I was super excited about watching the movie and having read the story was happy that this one was very close to the original story. As usual and expected, it was a well made movie. No crazy effects , no going away from the story and covering the highlights.
Somehow though, I was not as satisfied with the result. It was sort of “as expected”. Nothing spectacular. So I am just going to keep this short and say that it was still a very good movie. You do want to know how it all ended right?

I am all inspired to do a marathon of the books and the movies. I am set for the rest of the year.
The part with Dumbledore appearing in that White background was very well done. That scene, I thought was very much like, if anything better than the book. (or my imagination when I read the book).

Check it out.

Delhi Belly

Its a hilarious movie and I am so glad I made an effort to go watch it. Refreshing and just plain funny.

Its the story of 3 guys.... oh wait, the story etc etc are already covered on wiki and IMDB and the innumerous sites that review movies. So I am going to go ahead with my analysis.

In the beginning, I did not recognize Shenaz. She looks damn cute. Only after the movie, I researched and found the names of the actors and Poorna Jagannathan , she was very good! I am quite surprised that she is a regular on American TV and pleasantly so.
I always thought Imran khan was looks with no talent. But he proved me wrong this time. He has 1 talent - He can kiss. Okay, not to be too hard on him, I thought he was quite good in this one. And his black eye was a natural. This Kunal Roy Kapur is too much I say. And Vir Das, he is cool. The best is when he shaves his head in honor of his lost love. Dramatic?

It was so well scripted. The music was also PRETTY decent by Ram Sampath - Apparently he is Khakee guy.... D K Bose......

Its an Aamir Khan production. I should not have doubted the outcome.

I almost forgot to mention Vijay raaz. P K  Dubey !

I loved all the swearing and I might swear some more than I usually do :) Just as a token of appreciation for the movie.

Chalo Dilli

Courtesy: Wikipedia
Plot: Mihika Banerjee (Lara Dutta), a successful investment banker living in Mumbai, misses her flight to Delhi and needs to get there any way possible to meet her husband, Lt. Col. Vikram Rathore (Akshay Kumar). She meets Manu Gupta (Vinay Pathak) and they discover the colours of India in their journey to Delhi. They go by road and train and the audience gets a chance to see both the large urban conglomerations and the small rural areas that make up India.

My thoughts: These two are my favorite actors.. well one actor and other the beauty :) Their combination is fantastic.. absolute contrary to each other but complementing. Vinay is a superb actor, which he has showed by portraying a small shop owner in Delhi. He molds into his character to such perfection that it is hard to imagine how he might be in real life.
The movie is funny, informative, and with a message.. well may be lot of messages :)

The Hangover Part II

Courtesy: Wikipedia
Hangover is hilarious.. the sequel is funny and Alan has got funnier.. though some scenes were gross and not that funny.. overall I enjoyed the movie.. This one has lost the surprise element that made first one unique. However, there were good things to take from the movie..

Phil (Bradley Cooper) was cool and adventurous.. There was not much for Doug in this movie, but Alan (Zack Galifianakis) has got better with dialogues as well as expressions. Stu does a great job of panicking :) keeping everyone on the toes..

Definitely watchable and I think y'all should watch it to have a good time

shor in the city

As the story follows the lives of a bunch of people in Mumbai, I wonder if life in Mumbai is really like that. And I realize, now, most cities have become like that. This movie came as a pleasant surprise. I saw the casting and was apprehensive of the outcome. I am happy I watched it.

Did you read The Alchemist? Its an interesting book. Its like a fable.

Anyway, I like how Tilak has some sort of ideals in what he does (Copy and print cheap editions of books). This character suits Tusshar kapoor the best. The less he talks, the better it is… The wife, Sapna , was pretty good too.Abhaythe NRI, I love this guy. He was really good in Heroes as well. The bachcha friend Mandook,  is very funny.
Saawan– Sundeep Kishan‘s role was probably exactly like how a struggling, talented cricketer is these days, thanks to the cricket scene in India. It is, after all, his plan that made the moviePreeti Desai is completely inconsequential ... I dint much like her role/performance.
Surprisingly watchable. Quite entertaining. If is a comical art movie. The best part of the movie is that it has a happens-every-day sort of a feel to it.

Did you watch Kung fu Panda ? The one in which PO finally becomes the dragon warrior? If you haven’t, you should. Although the kung Panda 2 can be watched without having watched Kung Fu Panda 1. Oh what the heck! YOU HAVENT WATCHED KUNG FU PANDA?????

The animation is just superlative. The story may be a regular one but it becomes so much more interesting just being an animation movie. To add to it, the characters and the voices are all so good!!

It was sort of strange to watch Tigress(Angelina Jolie) having a soft side. Especially for PO. I was so happy with the movie that I could hear myself laugh in the theatre and N had to ‘shush’ me.

Anyway, it’s a regular story told in an extra ordinary manner. The villain’s character was very charming. He is a peacock with feathers of metal and his army is a pack of wolves and he has these huge tanks that spit out metal. Then there is this prophecy by a goat that tells Shen (the peacock) he will be dead and will be killed by a panda. When he hears this prophecy, Shen kills all the Pandas in the world. Except for Po who, then just a baby is saved when his mother puts him in a basket of radishes.
The first time round, PO is a little stupid and gets hit by the tanker. Then he remembers the story and comes back to avenge his family and save his friends.
He even finds his Inner Peace.

It is hilarious and I am surprised that it is even better than the first one. Usually sequels do not live up to the expectations set by the first movie but this movie was GREAT!
The script, the action sequences, the animation was just WOW! WE should get to see more movies like this.
Watch it ! Watch it ! Watch it!

Something Borrowed

Chick flick. It was entertaining. Kate Hudson is OLD in the movie. Okay the movie was made for 30 year olds but she looks old and not cute.

I haven’t read the book  and I don’t want to anymore. The story is very predictable.
There are some moments of good Funny but mostly it is regular chick- flick funny. Oh JIM from Office – John Krasinski, he is the best in the movie.
Dex- Colin Egglesfield - is sort of okay I guess but not great. Both Kate Hudson  and Ginnifer Goodwin  play their part well although, I really liked Ginnifer Goodwin.

It is refreshing and nice but I wish I had waited for the DVD.
